    Real time in the shoe is a huge help vs 5 minutes walking around a store, watching videos, or listening to advice.. so I start by ordering several shoes on amazon’s “try before I buy” and start zeroing in on a favorite without being rushed. I get whatever color is available, wear them around the house (in clean socks, dont be gross) and usually land on a good option, sometimes I send them all back and buy it local in preferred colors, sometimes a amazon try is a home run. Its not a real world trail test, but its free and at least this way I get a day or so to identify reasons *not* to buy a particular shoe.. a pinch here, rub there, heal lift, felt great at first but damn its too narrow 2 hours in.. things we might never pick up on right away in the store.

    I love me some Altra but geeze.. The build quality is terrible. I had Timp, Superior and LP and all fell apart fast! Holes and tears, outsoles came off, top cap loose. I literally have to glue em after a long day hike. Then i discovered Topo, switched and never looked back. The original Mtn Racer is still in service and now on Mtn Racer 2.

    The one item that goes with me no matter where and what I'm doing: a USB powered fan. I have two different ones and they are great at moving the air when I'm sleeping. A little white noise, a little air movement and I'm asleep.

    great ideas. Like the jetboil dual cooker and the big mattress. I have not car camped since 1991 though, and thought if I needed to do so I'd just use my UL backpacking gear, now that it is pretty comfortable. The jetboil might be useful during power outages here at home, I've used by basic jetboil during outages plenty but it can only boil water.

      I don't have 1 liter, I have 2. The bladder attached to the filter in 1 liter. Also... I live in Arizona, in the desert. It's quite dry here as well. When I'm doing long desert stretches, I sometimes bring an extra liter

      @AryehBeitz День тому

      @@DarwinOnthetrail thanks for the quick reply! I usually need one liter per 5km in hot weather. I'm guessing you know you'll come across water at least every 10,15km you cover. Because I'm scared of running out of water, I usually take extra, and that just makes everything really heavy

    Great list! My personal suggestions a someone who car camps almost every weekend: - If space is no concern, skip the inflatable mattress and get a folding memory foam mattress. No inflating, more comfortable, can be as rough on it as you want without worry, and they usually sell waterproof carrying cases - I built cargo drawers for my car for under $200 (as well as a sleeping platform). If you don't want to built it, hire a cabinet maker. These have been indispensible, less to carry to the car when I camp, and always find myself having what I need if I possibly forget something. - If lighting a fire isn't a concern, skip the burners and get a cast iron dutch oven, those are the GOAT.

    As I've camped more over the years, the number of friends that come with grows. I recently got the GCI folding cook station to make sure everyone's well fed and the picnic tables stay cleared for us to eat at. Also, we have the same car! It's tiny but wonderful. I'd love to see a video on how you organize your car camping gear on the road and at the campsite.

    Top two must haves for my family and I when car camping are the storage "tool boxes" and cooler for food. We went with a Rigid 3 tool box system that sits on top each and has a wheeled base. Boxes are filled with camping gear basics and a major portion of our cook system. It is perfect for those walk in sites. The cooler otherwise is a Kenai 65 that holds ice for days especially using a good layering technique for ice and food/drinks. The cooler is definitely heavy when filled and one needs to be sure to lift properly. Cheers!

    I agree on the Exped Megamat Duo. Absolutely the most comfortable air mattress I’ve slept on easy. It fits perfectly in my Subaru Outback. Definitely look into getting a tiny air pump though. I got a FLEXTAILGEAR air pump and it makes it so much easier to setup. I also just fold it in 3 instead of rolling it up. I find it takes up less space when folded.

    I've stuck to Coleman stoves and lanterns for the most part over the past 10 years, but I tend to flip-flop back and forth between using the propane models and the Coleman gas versions. On the one hand, I hate those 1lb propane tanks. Never know what to do with them or how to dispose of them properly on a camping trip. Sadly, usually end up just throwing them in the garbage when depleted (shameful, I know). On the other hand, the Coleman gas stove/lantern is such a magnitude of difficulty more annoying. Did I pump it enough? Is the fuel intake clogged? Is it leaking? etc. The last few years I've just stuck with the ease of the propane stuff. As for coffee, I'm in no way a coffee snob. My prefered method was to use a Coleman "Mr. Coffee" maker that sits on top of your propane stove. Works just like a normal coffee brewer at home, but takes up a huge amount of space. Have mostly resorted to using the Starbucks Via (the tin, not the individual packages) instant coffee, although Cafe Bustelo (as you showed) works pretty well in a pinch.
